Outgoing Caller ID - Number presentation

Starting August 2009, ITS has changed the telephone system to allow individual extensions to display their phone numbers to the public when outbound calls are placed. This is an opt-in feature: In other words, you must request this feature to be enabled on your extension.

Currently, calls placed to off-campus numbers present the main campus number 805-756-1111 to phones with Caller ID. With number presentation enabled, your specific extension will display when you call off-campus numbers. However, if you have previously requested Caller ID blocking, the word "Private" is displayed. This will not change.

To request that Number Presentation be enabled on your phone, have your Telephone Coordinator submit this form asking to have this feature added to your phone line. Please allow 7 business days for this service request to be completed.

Nothing. This is an optional, opt-in feature. If you do not contact us, it will continue to display what it does today.

"Cal Poly" and your ten-digit telephone number, such as 805 756 1234.

 

How do I block my number from being displayed for specific phone calls?

Dial * 4 2 #, wait for dial tone, and then dial 7 + outside number. This will block Number Presentation for ONE call only. * 4 2 # needs to be dialed before each phone call if you want to block your number from being displayed.

 

What if I previously requested my number to not display (Caller ID blocking). In other words, my telephone already displays "unlisted" when I make calls. Will this change?

No. If you previously asked the ITS Service Desk to block your number presentation, and when you call off campus your phone number is already blocked, this will not change. Only those who specifically contact us to request Number Presentation will have their numbers displayed.

 

What if I want a fictitious number to display when I call out instead of my own extension? For example, I want my department's main number to display, not my personal extension.
